Faith Beyond Borders: UM Metro Students Observe Ramadan During Internship in Thailand

INTERNATIONAL UMMETRO -Three students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro (UM Metro) are currently participating in an international internship program in Thailand, where they continue to observe the holy month of Ramadan with dedication and resilience. Through their experience, Fadhila Sihombing, Muhammad Arya Tama, and Balqis Faradila Rahma S demonstrate that professional growth and spiritual commitment can go hand in hand, even while living abroad.

As part of the program, the students are placed in three different educational institutions in southern Thailand. Fadhila Sihombing is completing her internship at Suksawat Wittaya School, located in Yaha District, Yala Province. Muhammad Arya Tama is assigned to Lukmanul Hakeem Islamic School in Yala Province. Meanwhile, Balqis Faradila Rahma S is undertaking her internship at Charoensart Wittaya School, located in Narathiwat Province. These diverse placements provide valuable exposure to different academic environments and local communities.

The international internship program provides valuable global exposure, enabling students to strengthen their professional competencies and develop cross-cultural communication skills. Working in an international environment challenges them to adapt to new workplace systems, cultural norms, and daily routines, further enhancing their global perspective.

Despite their busy internship schedules, the students remain committed to fulfilling their religious obligations. Shared photos capture meaningful moments as they break their fast together in Thailand with simple yet heartfelt meals. Another photo shows them after completing the Tarawih prayer, reflecting their enthusiasm in maintaining spiritual devotion during Ramadan while being away from home. These moments highlight a strong sense of unity, faith, and perseverance in a different cultural setting.

Fadhila Sihombing described the experience as both challenging and rewarding, explaining that observing Ramadan abroad has strengthened her sense of gratitude and solidarity.

Muhammad Arya Tama emphasized that balancing professional responsibilities with worship requires discipline and effective time management, contributing to both personal and professional growth.

Meanwhile, Balqis Faradila Rahma S stated that participating in an international internship is not only about gaining work experience but also about preserving personal values and identity wherever one goes.

This experience reflects UM Metro’s commitment to preparing globally competitive graduates who uphold integrity, adaptability, and strong moral values. Through programs like this, students are encouraged to expand their horizons while remaining grounded in their beliefs.

Their journey in Thailand clearly illustrates that faith knows no borders, and that dedication to both
